Our last night in Rome so we decided to go to the posh-looking restaurant just down the street from the hotel.
We started with prosecco. Tom ordered a seafood soup which was tomato based and crammed with mussels and cherry tomatoes and served with crostini. It was fabulous.
For mains we ordered filet mignon with a green peppercorn sauce. The waiter flambeed it at the table and the sauce contained an unhealthy dollop of butter and cream, alcohol, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper and green peppercorns. The steak was cooked perfectly and served over a toasted crouton. We ordered sauteed potatoes and escarole sauteed with olive oil, olives, anchovies and capers.
Finally we ordered their tartufo and it was exquisite. Chocolate icecream made from 70% dark chocolate, a layer of hazelnut icecream above that and then sprinkled with cocoa.
This was probably one of the best meals I've ever eaten!
