Belvedere Restaurant
Jul 06, 2011
We had 1 1/2 hours of free time in ?Monterosso? and as we were starving, we decided to eat lunch in a local restaurant. The Belvedere was one of several recommended by our guide, and was a seafood restaurant located right on the seafront.
I ordered mussels, which the area is meant to be famous for. They had been cooked in brine (or maybe it was just water and the salt from the shells!), and were served with a squeeze of lemon. What I found interesting was that the shells hadn't been cleaned to the level we usually see, and some of the shells had limpets and other shells still stuck to them! The mussels were fresh and delicious, but sadly had no yummy sauce to dip the bread in after.
Tom ordered grilled shrimp, and ended up with 6 huge shrimp served intact, complete with heads. They were very fresh and succulent.
We also had an order of french fries, (crisp, unsalted and delicious!), and bread. I can never understand why they bring bread and olive oil but no plate. Are you meant to put the bread on the tablecloth to pour the oil on???
