Dinner in the quest dining Room

Tonight was the night of sloooooow service and miniscule pours of house wine, or maybe we just went to dinner late after a long day and both us and the waitstaff were tired.
Tonight the menu looked really good and we were hard pushed to narrow down our choices.
I had Pate de Campagne to start with. I can't remember when I last had pate that good. Tom had ?
For soup Tom went with the tomato broth with chorizo and I went with the tried and trusted chicken consomme as I just can't get interestd in the other soups and salads!
We were having trouble choosing a main course as there was lamb, chicken, duck, sea bass and battered haddock on the menu, each of which we would gladly have picked on any other night. What clinched it for us was that one half of the german couple seated beside us ordered the fish and chips and it crunched as he cut into it! We were sold! It was fantastic when ours came and Tom says that the mushy peas served with it were the best he had ever tasted!
We were pretty stuffed after and could only manage sorbets, a wimpy orange one overshadowed by a robust raspberry one.
